What is a Virtual Number or DID?
Virtual DID (Direct Inward Dialing) numbers—also known as virtual phone numbers—are real, cloud-hosted phone numbers linked to a VoIP account. They allow your customers to dial a local number while you receive the call anywhere in the world with an internet connection, whether via VoIP apps or by forwarding calls to mobile or landline numbers.
How does a virtual number work?
When someone dials your DID number, they aren't calling a physical line plugged into your home; they are calling your virtual phone service provider. That provider receives the call and—based on your settings—routes it wherever you choose.
It can forward the call to your mobile phone, make it ring on your computer via an app or softphone, send it to voicemail if you don't answer, or even record the calls if needed. You control all of this from a simple dashboard, without needing any programming knowledge or experience with outdated PBX systems.
